The idea for Milkshirt hit me during my second pregnancy. I was determined to breastfeed my son for his first year and was educating myself on the process. I was not successful in nursing my first child, mostly due to my lack of breastfeeding knowledge. With my second pregnancy I did a lot of reading, took a class and started purchasing the necessary supplies. I was disappointed with the high prices of nursing tops and the limited selection. I was looking forward to packing up the maternity clothes and really didn’t want another temporary wardrobe. I found several supportive nursing bras that I liked, but couldn’t figure out why there wasn’t a nice undershirt to wear with the nursing bras and normal clothes. Wouldn’t that eliminate any wardrobe dilemmas?

I had a vision of Milkshirt in my mind and starting shopping for it online. It did not exist. I did find some nursing undershirts with slits and others with exaggerated underarm openings. I did not like these because their openings posed a problem with bunching underneath clothes. I wanted something formfitting that I could wear under anything.

I settled for some plain nursing tops from a maternity store. I can be seen in numerous family photos wearing the same two shirts repeatedly. I also purchased some nursing camisoles with built in support. I didn't find that they provided the same support as a nursing bra, so I only wore those to bed. Eventually I brought my Milkshirt vision to life after learning to use a sewing machine. I made several Milkshirts for myself and couldn’t have been happier with my ability to nurse discreetly while wearing normal clothes and my favorite nursing bras. I had better coverage with Milkshirt than with my other nursing shirts and stopped trying to cover my baby’s head with a blanket. I’m glad to say that I have never flashed a boob in public while wearing a Milkshirt.

Milkshirt is a family business. We believe that breastfeeding is  the right thing to do for your baby. We hope that you enjoy this product and that it helps you reach your breastfeeding goals. Breastfeeding has many challenges; your wardrobe should not be one of them.

Sincerely, Angela Lehane
